Il robot non risale le pareti? Prima 6 verifiche

«Sale a metà e scivola». Sei verifiche in ordine di costo: modello e modalità, cestello, aria, patina sulle pareti e cingoli, prima di un reso.

“It climbs halfway and slides back down.” When an owner says that about a pool robot, treat it as a support call, not a return, until six checks are done in order of what each one costs to run.

Is it a wall-climbing model?

This check costs one look at the label. The spec sheets for our Y10, Y20, C1, C2, C3 and C5 say “Pool floor only”, and no setting makes them climb. The Y50S and Y50 are the wall-climbers. If a floor-only robot was sold as one that climbs, the fix belongs in the listing, and the owner deserves a straight answer instead of a troubleshooting session.

Which cleaning mode is it in?

Both wall-climbers have 4 cleaning modes; on the Y50 they're floor, full coverage, wall and waterline. A robot left in floor mode stays on the pool floor, which looks exactly like a robot that can't climb. Both have app control, so ask which mode the app shows, switch to wall or full coverage, and run it again.

It climbs halfway and slides back down

That points at flow. A wall-climber is held against the wall by the water its pump moves, rated at 75 GPM (Y50S) and 85 GPM (Y50), and a full basket or a mesh coated in fine sand cuts that flow long before anyone opens the lid. Empty and rinse the 4 L basket, then run it again.

Trapped air is the other suspect. Hold the robot under the pool surface and tilt it until the bubbles stop before letting go.

Is the wall too slippery?

Tracks and brushes need something to grip. An algae film or biofilm on plaster or tile, which builds when chlorine drifts low, can make a healthy robot slide. Ask the owner to brush the walls and rebalance the water before the next run.

Pool chemicals are an unlikely reason for a Y50S's tracks to lose grip. During its validation (QM test 24089), we left every plastic, rubber and silicone part for a month in algaecide mixed with bleach, and swung the tracks and seals from 70 °C down to -20 °C for a week. None of them cracked, faded, peeled or deformed. On a green wall, treat the water first.

Are the tracks worn?

After a season or more of use, hold the owner's tracks and brushes against a fresh set. Smooth, rounded treads and flattened bristles lose their hold on a wall, and swapping them is a parts job, not a fault.

Tracks and brushes can be ordered on their own; a few sets for the Y50S and Y50 belong at your service desk.

Ask about low battery before launch

Some cordless robots stop climbing when the charge runs low and finish the run on the floor, by design. Ask your supplier whether the model does this and at what charge level, then write the answer into your support script as normal behavior. A robot that climbed well for an hour and then stayed down could be doing exactly what it was built to do.

When it becomes a warranty case

If a freshly charged wall-climber in wall or full-coverage mode, with a rinsed basket, no trapped air, a clean wall and good tracks, still slides back, treat it as a fault. Ask the owner to film the climb on a phone and photograph the label, then handle it under the 1-year warranty on the whole unit.

Service desks can ask us for the six checks above as a one-page PDF, together with the mode settings for the Y50S and Y50, ready to drop into their own support script.
