Floor-Only vs Wall-Climbing Pool Robots

When a floor-only pool robot is the right sell and when your store needs one that climbs walls: the waterline test, pool size limits and real runtimes.

Floor-only and wall-climbing robots both have a place on a pool retailer's shelf. The expensive mistake is putting the wrong one in front of the wrong owner. A floor-only robot can do exactly what its box says and still come back, because what bothered the owner all along was the gray line at the waterline. This is how we'd decide, using the specs of our own floor-only and wall-climbing models.

Is floor-only enough for our customers?

It is when the dirt they complain about ends up on the floor: sand, grit carried in on feet, leaves that sank overnight. Floor-only robots are the simplest way into robotic cleaning. Ours are cordless, need no setup and park at the wall when the battery runs low. The Y10 and Y20 are rated for pools up to 100 m², and the C1, C2, C3 and C5 for pools up to 150 m², all with 180 µm filtration. For an owner who brushes the walls now and then and mainly wants the floor done without dragging a hose around, that's the right sell, and it fits entry and mid-range prices.

When does the store need a wall-climbing model?

Look at the waterline first. Sunscreen, body oils and dust collect where the water meets the tile and leave a ring that a floor-only robot never touches. Then the walls: if they go green or slippery in warm weather, the owner wants them scrubbed. Then size. Our floor-only ratings stop at 150 m², so bigger pools need the Y50S, rated for 200 m², or the Y50, rated for 400 m².
Both clean floor, walls and waterline with 4 cleaning modes, use gyroscope route planning and offer app control with OTA firmware updates. The Y50S moves 75 GPM and runs 150 minutes. The quad-motor Y50 moves 85 GPM, runs 4.5 hours and adds a 10 µm fine filter to its 180 µm basket.

Why does the cheaper robot run longer?

Shoppers ask this, and spec sheets invite it. Our C1 and C2 list 210 minutes per charge, and the Y50S lists 150. The C1 spends its run on the floor of a pool up to 150 m². The Y50S covers the floor, the walls and the waterline of a pool up to 200 m², with 75 GPM of brushless power. Runtime on its own doesn't rank them. Put "surfaces cleaned" right next to runtime on the box and in the listing, so the comparison a shopper makes is a fair one.

What about spas, inflatables and odd-shaped pools?

Floor-only robots handle more shapes than people expect. Our C1 is listed for rectangular, round and freeform pools, and the C2 and C3 for vinyl, concrete and fiberglass. Wall-climbing is where the wall finish starts to matter, since the robot has to grip it, so test a wall-climbing sample on the surface your market uses. For hot tubs and inflatable pools, a handheld is usually the better sell. Our H100 and H200 are IPX8 and listed for hot tubs and inflatable pools as well as in-ground and above-ground pools.

Should we stock both?

If your customers' pools vary, yes, and the line-up works best when the price step is the walls: floor-only at entry and mid-range, wall-climbing on top. Train staff, or write the listing, around one question: does the waterline bother you? If not, a floor-only robot saves the owner money. If it does, sell the wall-climber and show the owner how to choose the wall or full-coverage mode, because a wall-climber left in floor mode looks like a floor-only robot to the person who paid for it.

FAQ

Can a floor-only robot be upgraded to climb walls?
No. Floor-only models are designed and rated for the pool floor. If customers want the walls and waterline cleaned, choose a wall-climbing model such as the Y50S or Y50.
Which wall-climbing model fits a 300 m² pool?
The Y50, which is rated for pools up to 400 m². The Y50S is rated for pools up to 200 m².
Can we private-label both types?
Yes. Private label starts at 500–2,000 units and covers your logo, available housing colors, packaging and manual language. Neutral stock starts at 100–300 units. We confirm quantity and timing by model.
Not sure which type your customers need? Tell us your market, the pool sizes you see and how you sell in the form below, and we'll suggest one floor-only and one wall-climbing model to sample side by side. Our team will reply by email within 1 business day.
